I'm from a small town about 20 minutes from Cottey College - El Dorado Springs, Missouri. I've been working at Cottey since November 2010!
States I work with: Alaska, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Kansas, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Utah, and Wyoming
I grew up in a small town and I've chosen to stay in a small town - and there's something to be said for that! I love the atmosphere, the supportive community, and the opportunities that are afforded our students in Nevada. I also love that it's safe - I totally feel comfortable walking to my car at night alone or stopping to ask someone for help. That being said, don't forget that we teach our students about Global-Awareness - and with that comes our fabulous opportunities for students to go abroad early in the college career, which is not an opportunity many people get!
What About Boys?
Ladies. Think about it. You're at the only women's college within a 200-mile radius. You don't think they know where we are? But in reality, many students forget they're at a women's college in the first few days of being here. I went to a predominantly female university, and I had the same concern. Honestly, I wouldn't change my college experience for the world. It was amazing. It taught me that I have a right to have an opinion, voice that opinion, and feel comfortable expressing that opinion. It also impressed upon me that I CAN make a difference and I DO have an important role in society.
What Do Students Do For Fun?
First, let me just assure you - Cottey is the furthest from boring as you can get. There are over 40 clubs and organizations on campus that our students take part in. With so much going on, it's hard NOT to get involved!! Think about what you do for "fun" now. Hang out with friends? Suitelife! Go to the movies? There's a theatre right down the road - and we have LIVE performances on campus all year! Pick up a game of basketball or soccer or whatever? We have intramural sports going on all year - plus opportunities to go swimming, hiking, or work out with your friends! I think the last thing you'll be is bored - but if you don't believe me, ask our students - if you can catch them!
My thoughts on admissions in one sentence:
It's not only my job to help you through the admission and financial aid process, it's also my job to help make sure you're comfortable and secure in your college decision - I'm here for you!
