Cottey Theatre Production Selected to Perform at ACT Festival

Date Posted: January 13, 2017 Author: Steve Reed

The Cottey College Department of Theatre’s production of The Moors by Jen Silverman has been selected to perform at the American College Theater Festival in Des Moines, Iowa, at the Hoyt/Sherman theatre on January 26.

“This is a high honor, as only six colleges were selected,” said Laura Chaney, associate professor of theatre and the director of The Moors. “Additionally, three acting students were nominated to compete for an Irene Ryan acting scholarship and three design students will display their designs in the technical theatre expo.”

In November, Cottey’s production of The Moors was adjudicated by two respondents with the American College Theater Festival. The respondents held Cottey’s production for consideration to advance to perform at the regional festival in Des Moines. In December, the theatre department was selected to advance.

The trip has been made possible through generous donations made by members of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and Cottey College’s Serenbetz Institute for Women’s Leadership, Global Awareness, and Social Responsibility.
