Dept. of Theatre Presents “This Changes Everything” Feb. 23 & 24

The Cottey College Department of Theatre presents its first production of 2018, This Changes Everything, on Friday and Saturday, February 23 and 24, in the Auditorium of the Haidee and Allen Wild Center for the Arts. The curtain will rise at 8 p.m. both evenings.

“Activism on college campuses is nothing new!” said director Laura Chaney. “Though the young adults of today may feel that they are living in the most socially charged times, activism has been a central part of a global history towards protesting wars, fighting for equality and social justice issues. What has changed then? We are living in a time when people can be connected instantly across borders and oceans. We are capable of finding online forums and groups to meet people who share our beliefs as well as supporting causes through signing petitions, creating blogs and reading articles. How many times have you thought, ‘If I could just live with people who share my beliefs? If I could just form a new society, things would be different? I know I could be a better person and make a better world if I just started fresh?’ The play, This Changes Everything written by Joel Harwood, examines just these ideas. Twenty-one women meet in a group forum and discuss forming a new ‘community.’ The women decide that they will find an isolated spot to escape the world they live and start fresh. Hopefully, they will gain experience and understanding that can be taken back to the places they lived before that will change everything for the better. Will they succeed? You will have to watch for yourself on February 23 and 24.”

Tickets for This Changes Everything are $5 for adults and $4 for those under age 18 or over age 62. Tickets will be available at the door both evenings.

The Center for the Arts is on the northeast corner of Austin and Tower streets in Nevada, Missouri.
