Cottey Family Weekend Events, Sept. 28-29

The weekend of September 28-30, 2018, is Family Weekend at Cottey College, and the public is invited to events from volleyball games to performances.

The Comets volleyball team has two matches scheduled for the weekend. On Friday, September 28, the Comets will face Oklahoma Wesleyan University at 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, September 29, the Comets take the floor with William Baptist University at 1 p.m. Both matches are held inside the friendly confines of Hinkhouse Center.

On Friday evening, members of Delta Psi Omega, the student national theater honorary society, will perform a script-in-hand performance of First Fruits, the story of Virginia Alice Cottey and her journey of building Cottey into what it is now. Join us in the Missouri Recital Hall at 8 p.m. as we venture into the life of a strong, independent woman who made her dreams a reality.

On Saturday morning at 8 a.m. the Comets will host and compete in a home cross-country meet at the Frank E. Peters golf course. The meet will feature a high school competition as well as the college division. The college women’s competition begins at 10 a.m.

On Saturday evening at 8 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Haidee and Allen Wild Center for the Arts, mentalist Wayne Hoffman will mesmerize the audience with his performance. Multi award-winning Hoffman is recognized as one of the top mentalists in the world. His high-energy presentation involves body language, human behavior, and visual magic that will make your head explode. The audience will experience seemingly supernatural phenomena in a fun and upbeat way. He was featured on America’s Got Talent, The TODAY show, NBC’s hit show Phenomenon, France’s Got Talent, Britain’s Got Talent, The Ellen Degeneres Show, and countless other television and radio shows. Hoffman even fooled Penn & Teller on their show Fool Us.

Tickets for Wayne Hoffman are $5 for adults and $4 for those under age 18 or over age 62. All other events listed above are free of charge and require no tickets.

Hinkhouse Center is located behind Reeves Hall on the southwest corner of Austin Boulevard and College Street. The Center for the Arts is on the northeast corner of Austin Boulevard and Tower Street. The Frank E. Peters golf course is located in southeast Nevada, Missouri, on Barrett Street approximately 2 miles south from Austin Boulevard.
