County Historical Society Hosts Conversations with Carnegie on July 14 at Cottey

Date Posted: July 9, 2019 Author: Steve Reed

The Vernon County Historical Society (VCHS) is hosting “Conversations with Carnegie” on Sunday, July 14, at 2 p.m. in the Haidee and Allen Wild Center for the Arts on the Cottey College campus. This event is part of the VCHS summer program. The event is free and no tickets are required. Light refreshments will be served.

“Conversations with Carnegie” is a first-person performance about the life and times of Andrew Carnegie, American industrialist and philanthropist. Andrew Carnegie will be portrayed by Dr. Jeffrey Smith, a professor of history at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri. Smith has portrayed Andrew Carnegie in more than 150 venues including many Carnegie libraries, colleges, and universities. He has worked for more than a decade offering first-person portrayals of Carnegie and other historical figures.

Nevada is home to an original Carnegie library on the southeast corner of Austin and Ash streets. Today that building houses White Ember Financial Planning and the Nevada/Vernon County Chamber of Commerce.

This event is sponsored by Cottey College and White Ember Financial Planning.
