Cottey College Family Weekend Events

Date Posted: September 20, 2019 Author: Steve Reed

The weekend of September 27-29, 2019, is Family Weekend at Cottey College, and the public is invited to events from volleyball games to performances.

On Friday evening, members of Delta Psi Omega, the student national theater honor society, will perform a script-in-hand performance of First Fruits, the story of Virginia Alice Cottey and her journey of building Cottey into what it is now. Join the cast in the Missouri Recital Hall at 8 p.m. as they venture into the life of a strong, independent woman who made her dreams a reality.

The Comets volleyball team has two matches scheduled. On Saturday, the Comets will face Harris Stowe University at 2 p.m. and Bethany College at 6 p.m. in Hinkhouse Center.

On Saturday evening at 8 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Haidee and Allen Wild Center for the Arts, magician Trigg Watson will amaze the audience. Watson is a new breed of magician. He prefers his iPad to a deck of cards. He likes robots more than rabbits. Watson caught the “magic bug” after watching a magician at a young friend’s fourth birthday party. Years later, Watson has become known for his modern high-tech take on magic. Fresh from his appearances on Pop TV’s Don’t Blink, CW’s Masters of Illusion, and Penn & Teller’s Fool Us, he’ll have the audience questioning what’s possible and have them laughing along the way.

Tickets for Trigg Watson are $5 for adults and $4 for those under age 18 or over age 62. All other events listed above are free of charge and require no tickets.

Hinkhouse Center is located behind Reeves Hall on the southwest corner of Austin Boulevard and College Street. The Center for the Arts is on the northeast corner of Austin Boulevard and Tower Street.
