Cottey College Peace Week Activities, September 15-20

Date Posted: September 16, 2019 Author: Steve Reed

The Spiritual Life and Campus Diversity Office at Cottey College invites the Cottey and Nevada communities to participate in the annual Peace Week Celebration. The office will host a variety of peace events this week starting on Sunday, September 15, through Friday, September 20. The celebration ends on Friday, September 20, by connecting with the global community in celebrating the International Day of Peace. This year’s United Nations Peace Theme is titled “Climate Action for Peace.”

The International Relations class will show a video titled “Occupation 101” on Wednesday, September 18, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., in room 109 of the Rubie Burton Academic Center.  There will be a discussion after the video and the public is invited to attend.

Students will participate in their own unique celebrations throughout the week from poster board peace message writing to art projects in the halls and the library. Some students will host video/movie nights in their suites focused on environmental and other problems that affect mankind.

The Cottey community will gather by the Hinkhouse sculptures on Friday, September 20, at 4 p.m., and begin the International Day of Peace celebration by exchanging warm fuzzies (yarn art projects) while sharing words of peace and love before marching to the Peace Pole where the rest of the program will be presented. The program will feature music, short readings, and words of peace in different languages. All are welcome to the Friday afternoon celebration.
