Department of Theatre Presents The Fairy Tale Lives of Russian Girls, November 8-9

Date Posted: October 30, 2019 Author: Steve Reed

The Cottey College Department of theatre is pleased to present The Fairytale Lives of Russian Girls on Friday and Saturday, November 8 and 9, in the Auditorium of the Haidee and Allen Wild Center for the Arts. The curtain will rise at 8 p.m. both evenings.

Once upon a time, in 2006, a 20-year-old girl named Annie returned to her native Russia to brush up on the language and lose her American accent. Underneath a glamorous post-Soviet Moscow studded with dangerously high heels, designer bags, and luxe fur coats, she discovers an enchanted motherland teeming with evil stepmothers, wicked witches, and ravenous bears. Annie must learn how to become the heroine of a story more mysterious and treacherous than any childhood fairy tale: her own. This subversive story haunts the audience and carries a powerful message for young women living in a world where not everything ends up happily ever after. This play is recommended for adult audiences only.

The production is under the direction of Dr. Rusalyn Andrews, professor of theatre and speech.

Tickets for The Fairytale Lives of Russian Girls are $5 for adults and $4 for those under age 18 or over age 62. Tickets will be available at the door the evenings of the performances.

The Center for the Arts is located on the northeast corner of Austin and Tower streets in Nevada, Missouri.
