Dr. Volha Charnysh, Cottey Class of 2007, and an assistant professor of political science at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will speak on becoming a global citizen at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 28, in the Missouri Recital Hall.
Dr. Charnysh’s book project, Migration, Diversity, and Economic Development, examines the long-run effects of forced migration in the aftermath of World War II in Eastern Europe. Dr. Charnysh grew up in Grodno, a small town in Belarus. As Cottey’s sophomore students prepare for travel to Poland and Germany, Dr. Charnysh will discuss the importance of developing a global perspective as we grow as global citizens.
Dr. Charnysh earned her B.A. from Smith College and a Ph.D. in Government from Harvard University.
The address is free and no tickets are required. This program has been provided by the Alice Virginia Coffin Enrichment Fund for Cottey College. This fund was presented to the Cottey College Board of Trustees by Massachusetts P.E.O. members in recognition of the Coffin family origin on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts.
The Recital Hall is located inside the Haidee and Allen Wild Center for the Arts on the northeast corner of Austin and Tower streets in Nevada.
