ANNUAL COMMUNITY PICNIC AND PARTNER FAIR

Date Posted: August 2, 2021 Author: Steve Reed

Cottey College, together with the City of Nevada and the Nevada/Vernon County Chamber of Commerce, will host the 2021 Community Picnic and Partner Fair on  Friday, August 20, from 6-8 p.m. at the Franklin P. Norman Community Center.

Local businesses, civic organizations, and churches are invited to register for the event that is designed to showcase the community to incoming Cottey College students and their families.

The Community Partner Fair allows students to become familiar with area businesses, civic organizations, and churches.  Additionally, the event provides the opportunity for local businesses and organizations to recruit Cottey College students for volunteer opportunities, service learning projects, local internships, and undergraduate research.

Exhibitors are encouraged to showcase their products and services through displays, promotional materials, samples, giveaways and demonstrations.

Participation in the fair is free to any business, church, or civic organization in Vernon County.  Student-athletes from Cottey College will be available to assist exhibitors with their setup on the day of the event.

This year, the Community Picnic and Partner Fair has moved to Friday night, instead of the traditional Saturday night event. This change was made to allow attendance to Cottey’s Opening Convocation by the parents and families traveling with their student.

Convocation, previously held on the Monday night after Orientation Weekend, includes the Signing of the Cottey Book by new students. In the past, many parents have expressed a desire to attend this prestigious event before returning home.

This year, Opening Convocation will be held on Saturday, August 21, at 7 p.m. and the honored speaker is Tatum Albertine, executive director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar.

Additionally, health and safety protocols may be implemented for the event should circumstances warrant at the time. These protocols may include social distancing and/or mask requirements. Registrants will be notified of any health and safety practices put into place for the event prior to attendance.

To register for the 2021 Community Picnic and Partner Fair or to receive information on Cottey College interns and volunteers, contact Renee Hampton, coordinator for career services and experiential learning, at 667-8181, ext. 2184, or email rhampton@cottey.edu. The registration deadline is Monday, August 16, at 5 p.m.
