Prospective Students

Cottey College encourages students with disabilities to consider early transition planning. The Coordinator of Disability Services welcomes prospective students interested in applying to Cottey to schedule a meeting to make sure the transition to college goes smoothly. One of the greatest aspects of choosing Cottey as a place to study is the caring atmosphere where strong relationships are built and students are known on a first name basis by the faculty and staff. By taking advantage of this opportunity, prospective students and families will have the opportunity to discuss the following transition issues:

  1. Applying to Cottey College
  2. When to Disclose a Disability
  3. Cottey’s Documentation Guidelines
  4. Request Accommodations
  5. Student Success Programs
  6. Housing Considerations

While a 504 plan and IEP do not serve as adequate documentation for disability services in higher education, bringing such documents to a transition meeting with the Coordinator of Disability Services is very helpful. Further, no accommodations will be granted or determined during an early transition meeting. The purpose of this meeting is to share knowledge about the services available to students with disabilities during the transition from high school to college.

If you’re interested in scheduling an early transition meeting with the Disability Support Services Coordinator, please contact Heather English by phone (417-667-8181 ext. 2131) or email (henglish@cottey.edu).
