Chris Ortiz
Adjunct Assistant Professor of Art
Chris Ortiz, a third generation Mexican-American, received his BA in Art History at Baker University and his MFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in photography, while being behind the camera for over 30 years.
His work has been exhibited locally, regionally, and internationally, winning several awards and being published in the likes of Johns Hopkins Press, Reuters, Yahoo! News, USA Today, Adobe Stock, Alamy Stock, The Daily Sabah (Istanbul, Turkey), and others.
Professor Ortiz’s current work covers politics, documentary and concert photography. He has photographed US Presidents Clinton, Obama, and Biden, all the while working with musical artist like the Foo Fighters, Garth Brooks, Dwight Yoakam, Carlos Santana, Tool, Wynton Marsalis, Elektra Records, and others. His documentary work focuses on marginalized people from the Latinx and African-American communities, to mental health, to the Punk Rock Subculture.
