Dear Incoming Cottey Student,

Welcome to Cottey College and to the opportunity to create your own incredible future. We are so excited and pleased to welcome you to our campus and to inspire you, throughout your Cottey experience, to become the learner, leader, and citizen you have the potential to become. Whether you are from the local community or from hundreds of miles away, we are delighted that you are joining our campus of intelligent, creative, adventurous, caring, and talented women.

Our entire Cottey community, including faculty, staff, alumnae, and the P.E.O. Sisterhood, ensures that you are a priority. From individualized mentoring, to an intimate classroom setting allowing true student/professor collaboration, to approachable and accessible faculty and staff, we are committed to — and believe in — advancing women’s education. Whether in the classrooms, the dining room, the library or leadership center, the residence halls, Hinkhouse Center, or elsewhere, we are all here to assist you as you develop and effectively use your voice and act with courage. Please, don’t ever hesitate to ask questions; each of us is here to help you reach your academic, personal, and professional goals.

We are confident that you will find the community of Nevada welcoming to you and your family. Within our safe community, you will find many opportunities to interact with residents through community service, internships, attendance at church or local events and celebrations, or when shopping or enjoying any of our local restaurants.

Personally, I wish to welcome you and your family to Cottey. As President and as an individual, I greatly admire the campus, students, staff, and faculty. Virginia Alice Cottey founded Cottey over 130 years ago to ensure a quality education for young women, and our campus continues today to meet that goal.

Welcome. I’m so excited to meet you!

Jann Weitzel, Ph.D.

President, Cottey College

Next Step: Orientation

On behalf of the student life team at Cottey College, let me begin by saying we are thrilled you have chosen to join the Cottey family! We are counting down the days until Friday, August 20, when you arrive on campus. We know you have many questions and we will do our best to answer them on the Orientation webpage.

August 20 represents far more than the day you change your address. August 20 will be a transition into the next phase of your life—your first step on the path to an incredible future. College is a life-changing experience. At Cottey, you will enjoy the fruits of a challenging curriculum and a dynamic campus experience. Welcome to Incredible: Orientation 2021 is our way to ensure you, your family, and your guests receive the information needed to make your transition a success!

Welcome to Incredible: Orientation 2021 will provide you a host of opportunities to connect with your classmates and learn about your new home. If you aren’t able to register before arriving at Cottey, or if you need to change your schedule, your academic advisor will help you finalize your fall course registration. Cottey’s faculty and student life staff will be available throughout orientation and we are excited to meet you in person.

During the four-day orientation, our orientation leaders will assist you from the moment of your arrival through your first days on campus. It is our objective to integrate you into the fabric of Cottey’s community as quickly and seamlessly as possible.

We will communicate with you before you arrive through your new Cottey email address. Monitor it, as it will be our primary means of communication with you. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

We know transitions can be challenging. It is our highest priority to make your transition a success. We have a phenomenal team in student life including staff in Housing, Counseling, Health Services, Spiritual Life and Campus Diversity, Campus Activities, Security, the Spirit Shop, and Athletics. When the time comes that you need support, we will be waiting and ready to provide it.

We could not be happier that you have chosen Cottey. Welcome to Incredible: Orientation 2021 is the first step on your path to an incredible future! We look forward to welcoming you, your family, and guests to the Cottey family!
