NEVADA, MO—Cottey College Director of Athletics Dr. Maryann Mitts has announced that Alicia Freeman will be the next head coach of the Comets flag football program.
“We are so excited to have Alicia lead our flag football program,” Mitts said. “Alicia’s knowledge as a football player and coach will benefit our student-athletes as she coaches them to perform at a high level.”
Alicia brings 18 years of football playing and coaching experience to Cottey. Most recently, she served as the assistant coach at Cali War Women’s Football team in California. This past spring, Alicia was selected to coach at four youth flag football clinics hosted by the Los Angeles Rams. Prior to her years of coaching, Alicia played on multiple women’s football teams in California.
“I’m honored to have this opportunity to coach at Cottey,” said Alicia. “I have watched women’s role in all levels of football multiply over the past decade. Seeing the explosion of girl’s flag football across the country is exciting, and I can’t wait to provide opportunities for young women to pursue this sport at the collegiate level.”
“Alicia brings great energy and focus to our flag football program,” said Vice President of Student Life Landon Adams. “I am confident that she will be a strong leader for our student-athletes and guide our program towards success.”
Alicia officially began her duties on August 20.
