NEVADA, MO— The Cottey College Production of Disney’s Descendants: The Musical is presented through a special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI), directed by professor Laura Chaney. The production runs November 4 and 5 at 7:30 p.m. and includes a matinee show at 2:00 p.m. on November 5 in the Haidee and Allen Wild Center Auditorium at Cottey College. Tickets are $7 for students and senior citizens and $10 for general audiences. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online at https://www.showtix4u.com/event-details/68922.

The matinee performance is perfect for children ages 4-11. Autograph books will be available for purchase after the matinee show, and children may get their pictures taken with and autographed by their favorite characters. In addition, a video live stream performance will be available during the November 5 evening show for $10 on www.showtix4u.com. This production is entered in The American College Theater Festival.

It is present-day, and in the kingdom of Auradon, all of Disney’s beloved heroes and royalty are living happily ever after, safe from the terrifying villains and troublesome sidekicks they have banished to the magic-free Isle of the Lost. That is until Ben, the benevolent teenage son of Belle and King Adam (The Beast), offers a chance of redemption for the troublemaking offspring of the evilest villains. Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos – the children of Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Cruella De Vil, and Jafar – are welcomed to Auradon Prep to attend school with the children of their parents’ sworn enemies.

Descendants has it all: high-energy musical numbers, complex characters that have heart, and a timely message that resonates with all of us. At its core, Descendants is a musical about empathy, tolerance and acceptance. It takes place in a fantastical world filled with classic stories and characters we all know and love, seen through a fresh, new lens. This show can remind us that no matter where we come from, we are better together.

This show contains flashing lights and loud sound effects. Young children should have parents discuss the evil characters with their children prior to attending the performance. Though there is not violence in the story, some characters may seem frightening to the very young.
