Cottey College opens The Sophia Gymnasium
Nevada, MO—Cottey College is pleased to announce the opening of The Sophia Gymnasium on campus. The gymnasium space is located in Hinkhouse Center, formerly the site of the swimming pool.
Full ArticleCottey College is pleased to announce that Dr. Karla S. McCain has been hired as the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty.
Dr. McCain earned a Ph.D. in physical/analytical chemistry from the University of Utah and a B.A. in chemistry from Ohio Wesleyan University. Prior to joining Cottey College, Dr. McCain served as the Provost of Blackburn College and was a member of the Faculty at Austin College (TX) from 2003-2021. With experience as a professor, chair, dean, and provost, Dr. McCain brings a wealth of knowledge to her new position.
“We are excited to have Dr. McCain serve as our next Vice President for Academic Affairs,” said Dr. Stefanie Niles, President of the College. “Dr. McCain’s broad range of faculty and leadership experience makes her an excellent choice for Cottey College. I am confident that she will guide us forward as we educate the next generation of women.”
Dr. McCain is also thrilled to be joining the Cottey community. “Cottey’s mission is very inspiring to me,” she said. “To develop women as leaders through intellectually engaging curricular and co-curricular experiences, who are prepared to thoughtfully serve their local and global communities, is an exciting undertaking. I am eager to begin building relationships with students, faculty, staff, and alumnae. I was impressed by the people I met on campus and the high-quality education that Cottey provides.”
Dr. McCain will begin her tenure on July 1.
