NEVADA, MO — Cottey College, in partnership with the Community Council for the Performing Arts (CCPA), is delighted to announce the formation of the Cottey/CCPA Community Band. This new musical ensemble is open to Cottey College students, high school band students, and community members in the surrounding area, providing an exciting opportunity to come together and create music.
The band will be directed by Bob Cochran, who brings over 20 years of experience as the director of the Raytown Community Band. Band coordinator Gary Johnson, a former Adjunct Professor of Music at Cottey College with two decades of service, will join him. Both are eager to foster a vibrant musical environment and share their passion for music with the community.
Rehearsals for the Cottey/CCPA Community Band will begin on September 3, 2024, and will be held every Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. in the Cottey College band rehearsal room. The band aims to perform at least two concerts during its inaugural year, showcasing the talent and dedication of its members.
Students seeking additional performance opportunities and adults in the community are especially encouraged to join, regardless of how long it has been since they last played an instrument. Cottey College will provide access to larger instruments, such as tubas and baritone saxophones, for those in need.
For more information or to express interest in joining the band, please contact Bob Cochran at bob@goldenheartland.com or Gary Johnson at g26johnson@earthlink.net.
